BENNET´S WALLABY

CHARACTERISTICS
Its tail is short and muscular. The ears are very mobile and immediately point to the direction of any sound. Their colour is not very vivid, of a yellowish-grey, a little redder around the neck. The hands, feet, tip of the snout and the borders of the ears are black.
DIET
Grass and leaves, as well as the bark of trees, fruits and thickets.
REPRODUCTION
After 33 days gestation a baby wallaby is born, still virtually an embryo. A few days after the birth the females mate again. The embryo halts its development until the one that was born before it leaves the marsupium, after 190-200 days. Shortly afterwards the next offspring will be born and the mother will mate again. At this time, the female will have three little ones under her charge: one outside the pouch, still suckling; another inside the pouch completing its development and an embryo in the uterus.
CURIOSITIES
During the day they tend to remain hidden, at night they come out to graze. They tend to pass the hottest hours of the day either sleeping or snoozing.
