AMETHYSTINE PYTHON


CHARACTERISTICS
They can reach up to 8,5 m in length. They can weigh up to 90 Kg.
DIET
Its diet is of fish, wallabies, birds, small mammals and there are cases documented of them killing and swallowing domestic dogs.
REPRODUCTION
It is oviparous. Mating takes place in summer from June to September. Oviposition takes place between October to December. It lays between 17 and 19 eggs at a time and they are incubated for 77 to 88 hours.
CURIOSITIES
It is the third longest snake in the world and the largest amongst all tree-dwellers. At the beginning of the 80’s, it was hunted by poachers for its skin which reaches a high price on the black market.
