Underground Mysteries
This thematic area provides the opportunity to enter the depths of a carstic cave, amongst stalactites and stalagmites, wherein to admire the surprising animals that inhabit the dark grottos, undergrounds tunnels and obscure settings. The tour begins with an impressive pair of amethystine pythons and a Fiji iguana of intense green colour. Two large aquaria show us colourful fish from the Pacific Ocean, such as the Damselfish, Butterfly fish or curious species such as the Blowfish, which inflates itself in the presence of any danger. Another curious aquatic species is the Garden Eel, which excavates tunnels in the seabed and only emerges to feed.
As genuine prehistoric vestiges, we find a pair of Rhinoceros Iguanas, dinosaurs in miniature from the Mona Island (Puerto Rico). Other unusual reptiles that the visitor may admire are the Bearded Dragon, the Rattlesnake, the Snake-neck Turtle or the Monocled Cobra.
One of the most interesting animals we will find in Underground Mysteries is the Axolotl, an amphibian which is under study by researchers in stem cells, given their prodigious capacity to regenerate any limb that is amputated, not just their tails, as happens with common lizards and other reptiles. They also have the unique capacity within the animal kingdom to decide whether to metamorphose or not, in accordance with the conditions of their natural habitat.
Likewise, we will also find unique albino specimens of these species, such as frogs, cobras and rattlesnakes, all of them albino.
Another unusual animal is the Naked Mole Rat, the only cold-blooded mammal on Earth and it is eusocial, in other words, it lives in colonies with a large number of individuals, like ants. Only the queen reproduces and each member of the colony has a very specific function.
