SILVER PHEASANT

CHARACTERISTICS
There is a great difference between the plumage of the male and that of the female, with the colouring of the male being much more vivid. The length of the male is much greater than that of the female due to its long tail. The male is white, black and red. The face, feather-free, is a red-crimson mask divided into two parts which join in the middle of the forehead. The plumage of the female, on the other hand, is dark brown in colour.
DIET
It basically feeds on vegetable material, seeds, cereal grains and fruit. Although, sometimes, it eats insects, slugs, snails, worms, etc.
REPRODUCTION
It builds its nest on the ground, where it lays between eight and fifteen eggs. The chicks are born after an incubation period of between 23 and 28 days. The chicks are nidifugous and become independent from the age of two and a half months.
