CHARACTERISTICS
Its height can reach up to 150 cm, with well-developed legs adapted for speed, which end in three toes. It has a large neck and the wings are useless for flight. The head, small and ash-coloured, has a strong bill, depressed and wide at the base. Black in the neck and chest and grey in the rest of the body.
DIET
Omnivorous: it eats seeds, grain, fruit, batrachians and reptiles, small mammals and bird squabs.
REPRODUCTION
Courtship involves the males and between 2 and 12 females. The male builds a nest, into which the females will deposit their eggs, and the male is charged with incubating them and, although it tends to be a very pacific bird, it becomes particular and suddenly dangerous when it is brooding.
CURIOSITIES
