CHARACTERISTICS
They have 1-10 offspring which are born with their spines covered in epithelium. They hibernate 3-5 months in the cold season They communicate by tactile contact.
DIET
They feed on invertebrates, earthworms and baby mice
REPRODUCTION
After a period of gestation of 49 days, the female has a litter of between 5 and 7 young, which are self-sufficient from the first month of life.
CURIOSITIES
When they feel threatened they curl up into a ball (covered in spines) which serves as a defence.
