
- CHARACTERISTICS
- Its weight varies depending on the habitat, ranging from 5,5 to 9,5 kg. The dark colouring around the eyes is characteristic (which give it a thief-like appearance), as is the tail with alternating light and dark colours like rings. Their fur may be light grey, brown or black, very rarely albino.
- DIET
- Omnivorous, feeding mainly on crustaceans, crabs, arthropods, frogs, fish, nuts, seeds and berries.
- REPRODUCTION
- Mating takes place during the months of January and February, with litters being born between April and May, depending on the climate.
Care of the young falls to the females. At the end of the summer, the young become independent of their mother. When the winter weather is severe they may become lethargic, although they do not hibernate.
- CURIOSITIES
- They have adapted to living in urban areas, where they can feed from rubbish bins and pet food thanks to their skilful hands. They often go into garages or attics in search of food.
When disturbed by humans or domestic animals, they can become very aggressive.
