
- CHARACTERISTICS
- The only nocturnal primate.
They live in pairs in the branches of trees, sleeping in hollows in the trunks.
The total length of the body can reach up to 24 to 47 cm.
Their fur is thick and woolly, grey to chestnut in colour on the upper half and cream to orange on the chest and lower half.
They live in pairs, with one or more offspring of different ages, and defend a territory of 10 hectares.

- They feed from fruit, nectar, leaves, insects, lizards, birds and small mammals
- REPRODUCTION
- The offspring are carried by the male from the first week of life, leaving them to the mother only when they need to suckle.
They have one offspring each year which is born after 133 days of gestation and remains with its parents for some two and a half years.
- CURIOSITIES
- Aotus means “without ears” although in reality they have quite good hearing.
They stand out for systematically emitting a great variety of different sounds which are used by them to communicate.
Their vision is polychromatic.
