CHARACTERISTICS
It is an animal that reaches an adult size of around a metre in length. The adult specimens weigh approximately 5 to 5,5 Kg. These reptiles have a massive head, with a snub nose.
DIET
Small mammals, birds, invertebrates and occasionally eggs.
REPRODUCTION
Takes place during the time of greatest abundance of food, which in nature is during the rainy season. They lay between 20 to 50 oval-shaped eggs that measure approximately 66 by 34 cm., and which will be buried in a hole of 15 to 30 cm. depth and dug by the female, or deposited in the hollow trunk of a tree.
CURIOSITIES
They are animals that have strong jaws populated with sharp teeth that can inflict more than painful wounds.
