ALBINO INDIAN PYTHON

CHARACTERISTICS
Solitary animal typical of forested areas, which feeds on small mammals and birds and which can reach up to 7m in length and weigh up to 100 Kg. They can live as long as 40 years. They kill their prey through constriction, wrapping themselves around the body of the victim.
DIET
Depending on the size, mammals, birds, amphibians and even other reptiles.
REPRODUCTION
Mating in spring. Copulation takes place in water or on land. Up to 8 to 10 eggs of 102 x 66mm each are laid 2 to 3 months after copulation. The female protects and incubates them increasing the temperature up to 10ºC thanks to muscular contractions. Incubation lasts 60 days.
CURIOSITIES
Their number is diminishing, they are killed for their skin, meat or simply because they are snakes. Albino animals do not live long in their natural habitat due to their weakness against solar rays and their lack of colouring which reveals them to both their prey and predators.
