
- CHARACTERISTICS
- Crepuscular mammal covered in spines, which are neither venomous nor can they detached, although their prick is painful and can easily get infected.
They live in pairs. The family groups share the burrow but the search for food is a solitary activity.

- Seeds, fruit, bark and leaves.
- REPRODUCTION
- Gestation lasts some 8 weeks, giving birth to between 2 and 4 offspring, which are hairless and with small spines which harden after a week.
- CURIOSITIES
- When they feel endangered they erect the spines on their back and tail, making them vibrate with a characteristic sound
