CHINCHILLA


CHARACTERISTICS
It weighs approximately 350 gr., has large ears, with a body length of 26 cm. and a tail of 14 cm. The face is elongated and they have up to 150 follicles per hair. Their soft coat is maintained thanks to sand baths which help them in their hygiene. Also, due to this abundant fur, it is extremely difficult for them to have external parasites.
DIET
Low shrubbery, seeds and fruit.
REPRODUCTION
The females are very aggressive and territorial amongst themselves and even with the male during the mating season.
CURIOSITIES
They can form colonies of up to 100 individuals. They threaten by means of grunts, clicking their teeth and urinating. Hunted for a long time for their soft fur. To make a coat, between 50 and 100 of them must be sacrificed. Auto-reflex system whereby they can lose hair in the face of attack from a predator.
