AARDVARK

CHARACTERISTICS
It is brown coloured on the top half and reddish on the lower half. It can reach up to 2,2 m long. It has a snout similar to that of the pig and strong claws; it spends the day inside underground burrows. The front legs have 4 toes and the back legs have 5 toes.
DIET
Principally termites and ants.
REPRODUCTION
They give birth to one offspring a year, which remains with its mother for the first six months, and thereafter digs its own burrow and becomes independent.
CURIOSITIES
It comes out at night and then makes use of its keen sense of smell to track ants and termites. They also have keen hearing thanks to their long and upright ears. When they go down into their underground burrows, they conveniently fold their ears so that these do not impede their progress.
