- CHARACTERISTICS

Of light to dark pink, with a relatively long dark coloured bill.
It is not migratory, although it does move from one area to another in search of food.

- Their diet consists of microscopic algae. They complement their diet with small invertebrates. They obtain sustenance from filtering the water.

- It nests in colonies, some with more than a million nests. It makes its nest in the mud.
