BROWN FUR SEAL


CHARACTERISTICS
The males can reach up to 2.3 metres in length with a maximum weight of 360 kg. The females can reach up to 1.7 metres and weigh from 60 to 80 kg.
DIET
Their diet consists of squid, octopus and fish.
REPRODUCTION
The breeding season lasts from November to December. The mothers care for the pup for the next 8 to 18 months, although in the Australian sub-species this can last for 3 years. The gestation period lasts for 11 months and 3 weeks.
CURIOSITIES
These mammals can submerge to depths of 200 metres and remain below the surface for more than seven minutes.
