
- CHARACTERISTICS
- The males can reach up to 2.3 metres in length with a maximum weight of 360 kg.
The females can reach up to 1.7 metres and weigh from 60 to 80 kg.

- Their diet consists of squid, octopus and fish.
- REPRODUCTION
- The breeding season lasts from November to December. The mothers care for the pup for the next 8 to 18 months, although in the Australian sub-species this can last for 3 years.
The gestation period lasts for 11 months and 3 weeks.
- CURIOSITIES
- These mammals can submerge to depths of 200 metres and remain below the surface for more than seven minutes.
