
- CHARACTERISTICS
- Parakeet of contrasting green and yellow colours, with an orangey face.
The calls are very quickly repeated strident shrieks.
Like most of the psittacidae, they have the ability to imitate and vocalise.
They are gregarious.
- DIET
- Pod fruits, cactus fruit and other types of small fruits.
- REPRODUCTION
- The breeding season begins in February and the couple normally choose palm trees in which to install the nest. The female incubates the eggs, although at night the male remains with his companion. After a period of incubation of 21-28 days, 4 eggs hatch. The chicks tend to remain in the nest 7 to 8 weeks.
- CURIOSITIES
- They form normally small communities of 4 to 12 individuals; although at times they get together in groups of over 30 in fruit trees and shrubs.
