SCARLET IBIS

CHARACTERISTICS
We can see ibis in two colours, orange and brown, this is because when they are young they tend to be brown to camouflage from their predators and when they reach adult age they acquire a pink hue. They are sociable as they feed and pass the night in groups which range from 30 to 70 individuals, often associated with other species of ibis.
DIET
They eat insects, frogs, fish, reptiles and nectar.
REPRODUCTION
The reproductive period is variable, above all in the more coastal populations, as it is associated with the rainy season. The nest is built at a height of between 1 and 4,5 metres in trees and bushes. Three eggs are laid after an incubation period of 21-23 days, which is carried out by both parents.
CURIOSITIES
They form groups of up to 10,000 individuals. These colonies intermix with other species of birds such as herons and egrets.
