KEEL-BILLED TOUCAN

CHARACTERISTICS
They can reach up to 52cm in length. They have a bill that can grow up to one third of the total body size. Females and males have the same colouring but the males are a little bigger than the females.
DIET
Fruits, but they also consume eggs, insects, lizards and tree frogs.
REPRODUCTION
They make their nests in holes in trees and lay 2 to 4 white eggs. They can lay up to 2 to 3 clutches a year. Both parents share egg incubation responsibilities and feeding duties for the newborn when they hatch from their eggs. The babies are born after 16 to 20 days of incubation.
CURIOSITIES
In flight, the toucan moves its wings quickly and then it just glides. It cannot fly long stretches, and is more agile jumping from branch to branch.
