FLYING FOX


CHARACTERISTICS
Its body measures some 30 centimetres in length and it can have a wingspan of 120cm. It weighs an average 800 g. The fur has shades of reddish-chestnut, brown and black, lighter in the lower half.
DIET
Frugivorous, they eat flowers and nectar from fruit plants and can complete their diet with insects for greater protein intake
REPRODUCTION
They form hierarchical groups. The females move away during the birth and the offspring remain under the wings of the mother for five months. Mating takes place between July and October and the births between February and May.
CURIOSITIES
It plays a role in the dispersal of seeds. During the day they remain hanging from trees. They cause great damage to fruit crops and are therefore considered to be a plague in many regions.
