VIETNAMESE PIG


CHARACTERISTICS
They are of a blackish-brown colour, with protective grey hair, and a dorsal mane from neck to haunches. The tail is slightly curled and the ears are covered in hair. The characteristics vary depending on the caste of the ancestors. The breeds easily cross; the features of wild European pigs appear to be dominant.
DIET
It is omnivorous and at times opportunistic. Its diet includes shrubbery, weeds, eggs, snakes, grasshoppers, mice, roots, tubers, even compost.
REPRODUCTION
The males are more aggressive and have a harem of up to 8 females in the mating season. The females are receptive for 3 days. The young are born after a gestation period of around 115 days. The mothers give birth to 5-6 young and are extremely protective of them
CURIOSITIES
It has developed a technique for bathing in mud or water to maintain a comfortable temperature. This also protects it from insects. They even bathe in their own urine to keep themselves cool.
