Their colour is whitish and translucent and what are most remarkable are their four rounded structures that can be seen inside the gastrovascular cavity, brownish in colour, and they are none other than their gonads (reproductive organs). The radial canals that emerge from the gastrovascular cavity are also visible, as they branch out and reach the margin of the umbrella.

- REPRODUCTION
- From the egg emerges a pear-shaped and completely ciliated larva called planula which, when it finds the appropriate substrate, attaches and converts into an asexual polyp; the polyps produce sexed jellyfish and thereby close the cycle.
- CURIOSITIES
- They have always appeared in the Mar Menor in the summer months, but due to the invasion of the other two species of jellyfish they can only now be seen in the month of June.
In Asia, particularly in China and Indonesia they are used for human consumption. The most common way of eating them is once they have been boiled and macerated in sesame oil.
