BLACK-TIP REEF SHARK


CHARACTERISTICS
Size of between 1,6 m and 2 m. The first dorsal and ventral fins on the caudal lobe have conspicuous black tips which are particularly striking. A white strip is visible on the flanks.
DIET
Predator of reef fish.
REPRODUCTION
They are viviparous. They lay between 2 and 4 eggs at a time. When they are born they measure some 35 cm. The gestation period lasts up to 16 m.
CURIOSITIES
This species prefers shallower waters close to the edges of the coral reefs, at a depth of just a few metres and frequently the intertidal zones, often on reef platforms, in water of 30cm depth or less.
