WHITE-FRONTED LEMUR

CHARACTERISTICS
They measure up to 50 cm. Their weight may vary between 2 – 4 Kg. They are easily recognisable because the males have a white face while the females do not have this distinction. They can live in groups of up to 15 individuals. They are of nocturnal habits.
DIET
Principally fruit.
REPRODUCTION
They mate from April to June and give birth from August to October, just prior to the beginning of the rainy season. In one same area the births may become synchronised and take place over a period of a few days.
CURIOSITIES
Each member covers him or herself in urine to facilitate recognition by smell. In the native Madagascan language, lemur means ghost, as being of nocturnal habits the natives could not see them properly amongst the branches and thought they were spirits.
