BLACK-THROATED MAGPIE-JAY

CHARACTERISTICS: The body is blue and the cheek white. The long tail is shiny blue and the lateral feathers have little spots. The head has a black crest with blue patches. The bill is black.
DIET: It is omnivorous although its diet is based on fruit.
REPRODUCTION: The breeding season extends from November to July. When the nest is finished, the female deposits the 3 or 4 eggs that she incubates alone.
CURIOSITIES: They make social nests, like baskets, with materials such as lichens and roots. The nest is located in a round-trunked tree, at 30m height. During the breeding period they surprise with sweet vocalisations of diverse notes to attract males.
