BLACK-THROATED MAGPIE-JAY


CHARACTERISTICS
The body is blue and the cheek white. The long tail is shiny blue and the lateral feathers have little spots. The head has a black crest with blue patches. The bill is black.
DIET
It is omnivorous although its diet is based on fruit.
REPRODUCTION
The breeding season extends from November to July. When the nest is finished, the female deposits the 3 or 4 eggs that she incubates alone.
CURIOSITIES
They make social nests, like baskets, with materials such as lichens and roots. The nest is located in a round-trunked tree, at 30m height. During the breeding period they surprise with sweet vocalisations of diverse notes to attract males.
