African Forest
Is one of the most eye-catching ecosystems in the whole of Faunia, consisting of an enclosure of 1.836 m2 and 12 metres in height, completely surrounded by mesh which permits visitors to view the fauna from both inside and outside the enclosure, and permits the animals themselves to be in direct contact with the outside.
The lemurs are primates originating in Madagascar of nocturnal and crepuscular habits. All species of lemur are in danger of extinction due to the destruction of their habitat (deforestation) and hunting.
At Faunia there are ring-tailed lemurs (Lemur catta), red-ruffed lemurs (Varecia variegata rubra) and white-fronted lemurs (Eulemur fulvus albifrons).
To experience the world of the birds as they fly freely around the entire enclosure, to hear the howls of the lemurs, the trilling, the calls and the courtship of the birds, to enjoy the abundant diversity of colours and shapes in the turacos, the crowned cranes, the golden-breasted starlings, the cattle egrets and the guinea fowl, makes for a very vivid setting indeed.
